The following season, Onsare went two-for-three with wins at America’s Finest Half Marathon and the Charleston Distance Run 15K with another Top 5 at the Philadelphia Half Marathon. He had two more victories in 2002 with a win at the Paris Half Marathon and a return victory at Reims after skipping the event in 2001. That same season, he claimed two personal records with a third-place finish at the La Courneuve 10K (27:55) and second at the Berlin 25K (1:15:49).

Onsare finished third at the 2003 Paris Marathon behind champion Mike Rotich and Benoit Zwierzchiewski. His 2:06:47 personal record was the fastest debut in history at the time and just enough to edge Driss El Himmer who finished fourth. The Kenyan also won the Lille Half Marathon in 2004 to earn a new personal record in 1:00:52.

Onsare posted two Top 5 finishes in 2004 with competitive performances at the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon (2:08:33) and the real,- Berlin Marathon (2:08:53). The following year, he trailed Ethiopia’s Hailu Negussie at the 2005 Boston Marathon to place second behind the Ethiopian runner in 2:12:21. Onsare was the first Kenyan to cross the finish line defeating fellow Kenyan Benson Cherono and returning champion Timothy Cherigat.

In 2006, Onsare was ninth at Boston (2:13:47) and 21st at Chicago (2:16:12).
