Brazilian Carnaval, like Mardi Gras in New Orleans, is
a celebration that begins on the Saturday before Lent
and ends on Shrove Tuesday. Brazilian Carnaval is
known for incredible music, fabulous costumes and
joyous people who love to dance. Carrboro's Brazilian
Carnaval lasts only one night, but it provides a unique
opportunity for local residents to dance, wear costumes
and enjoy themselves.
Because it is too expensive and risky to bring live
Brazilian music to this area, our Carnaval uses
recorded music, much the way it is done in smaller
towns in the back country of Brazil.
