The Brazilian-American group "Os Unidos Cabea de Vaca"
will present their 15th annual Brazilian Carnaval on
Saturday, February 17, at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro.

Doors open at 9 p.m.  At 9:30 there will be a samba
lesson.  Dancing starts after the lesson.

Costumes are encouraged but certainly not required.

There will be free black beans, rice and soft drinks.
Beer can be purchased from the ArtsCenter bar.

Tickets can be purchased from the ArtsCenter for $7.00
in advance (929-2787) and $8.00 at the door.  Proceeds
go to the Chapel Hill/Carrboro Chapter of ACLU-NC.

Brazilian Carnaval, like Mardi Gras in New Orleans, is
a celebration that begins on the Saturday before Lent
and ends on Shrove Tuesday.  Brazilian Carnaval is
known for incredible music, fabulous costumes and
joyous people who love to dance.  Carrboro's Brazilian
Carnaval lasts only one night, but it provides a unique
opportunity for local residents to dance, wear costumes
        and enjoy themselves.

Because it is too expensive and risky to bring live
Brazilian music to this area, our Carnaval uses
recorded music, much the way it is done in smaller
towns in the back country of Brazil.
