The NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team (NSW JCTT) has laid three charges, including two-terrorism related charges, against a 19-year-old man currently remanded at a Goulburn correctional facility.

This follows an investigation by officers from Operation Broughton after the seizure of material at the correctional facility. Officers received significant assistance from the NSW Department of Corrective Services throughout this investigation.

This morning, the man was transported to Goulburn Police Station where he was later charged with the following offences:

  • make a document connected with preparation for a terrorist act, contrary to section 101.5 (1) of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth);
  • do an act in preparation for or planning a terrorist act, , contrary to section 101.6 of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth); and
  • deliver a document threatening to kill a person, contrary to section 31 of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW).

After being charged, the man was returned to the correctional facility where he is currently on remand for other matters.

There is no current threat to the community as a result of today’s activity.

The man will face Sydney Central Local Court on 12 October 2016 in relation to these matters.
