I had just enough time today to stop by the breathtakingly beautiful offices of the UBC President for a chat about the difference between the pursuit of truth and inciting hatred or discrimination on prohibited grounds.
Like any academic institution, my Alma Mater the University of British Columbia (UBC Mechanical Engineering) is responsible having in place policies that address inclusion but also for enforcing then on its campus. Event held for the purposes of inciting hatred or discrimination on prohibited grounds are quite likely to run afoul of this code of conduct.
In fact, a University is legally liable to pursuits for negligence in the event it knowingly overlooks its responsibilities to its community stakeholders.
Contrasting ideas and views are important to learning and knowledge.
Knowingly participating in the deliberate incitement of hatred and spreading of disinformation. is a deliberate act rather than an idea.
