HOME-ROAD: Chicago's 15-3 playoff mark breaks down to a record-tying 10-0 at home, 5-3 on the road. Seattle finished the playoffs at 13-8 overall, 8-3 at home and 5-5 on the road. This was Chicago's 100th game of the season, combining regular season and playoffs, and Seattle's 103rd.
MVP MICHAEL: Michael Jordan received six votes from the 11-member media panel voting on NBA Finals MVP; Shawn Kemp received three votes and Dennis Rodman got two. Jordan is the first person to be named NBA Finals Most Valuable Player four times, having also won it in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Magic Johnson won it three times, in 1980, 1982 and 1987. Jordan is the second man to win regular season, Finals and All-Star MVP honors in the same season, matching the feat of Willis Reed in 1970.
FOR THE MONEY: By winning, the Bulls received a total of $2,045,750 from the playoff pool of .$7 million. The runner-up Sonics will split $1,415,750.
NO. 1 BEATS NO. 2: This is the 15th time the teams with the two best regular season records have met in the NBA Finals, and the 12th time the team with the better record has won the series. The No. 1 team has won the last six matchups between Nos. 1 and 2; the last time No. 2 beat No. 1 was 1979, when Seattle beat Washington in five games.
HOME HEROES: The team with the home-court advantage has now won 9 of the last 11 Finals, and has a 36-14 edge overall. The championship team has wrapped up the title at home 29 of 50 times. The home team won five of six games in the 1996 NBA Playoffs. Chicago has won two of its titles at home (1992, 1996) and two on the road (1991 at Los Angeles, 1993 at Phoenix).
BY FRANCHISE: Chicago now ranks third among all NBA franchises with four championships won. Boston heads the list with 16 titles, followed by the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers at 11.
ACTION JACKSON: Phil Jackson's playoff coaching record is now 81-31. He's tied with K.C. Jones for third place overall in playoff victories behind Pat Riley, 137, and Red Auerbach, 99. His winning percentage of .723 is by far the best in NBA history; Pat Riley is next at .646.
SCORING CHAMPS: Michael Jordan has now led his team to championships in the four years in which he won the scoring title (1991, 1992, 1993 and 1996). The only other players to achieve those doubles were Joe Fulks of Philadelphia, 1947; George Mikan of Minneapolis, 1949 and 1950; and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of Milwaukee, 1971.
REBOUNDING CHAMPS: Dennis Rodman is the fourth man to help his team to a championship in the same season he won the rebounding title. The others: George Mikan of Minneapolis, 1953; Bill Russell of Boston, 1959, 1964 and 1965; Wilt Chamberlain of Philadelphia, 1967 and Los Angeles, 1972; and Moses Malone of Philadelphia, 1983. Rodman's 11 offensive rebounds tonight again tied the NBA Finals record set by Elvin Hayes, Washington, 5/27/79. Rodman also had 11 in Game 2, 6/7/96.
