N.C. STATE GAME

Leon Johnson scored four times Saturday, including a 40-yard punt return, as Carolina routed NC State 52 to 20 in Chapel Hill. Johnson finished the day with 233 all-purpose yards, notching 90 yards rushing, 69 yards receiving, and 73 yards on punt/ko returns.

Quarterback Chris Keldorf again was brilliant, with 3 TDs on 16-22 passing for 315 yards. In the four games since the loss to Florida State, Keldorf has totaled 1,240 yards passing, with 14 TDs and 0 interceptions.

GAME NOTES
  • Carolina scored in first 13 seconds of game; State scored in first 8 seconds of second half.
  • Chris Keldorf became the all-time leader in passing TDs for a season (20), passing Chris Kupec's 1979 record of 18.
  • Leon Johnson moved into 2nd place on the ACC's all-time TDs (47 to #1 Ted Brown's 51); #3 in all purpose yards (12 yds behind #2, 196 yds behind #1 Ted Brown).
  • Octavus Barnes celebrated his birthday Friday; Saturday he had two TD receptions.
  • State's 20 points was the most scored on UNC all year; the Wolfpack entered the game 81st in the country in scoring offense; the Heels' defense was 1st in the nation in scoring defense.
  • UNC sacked the Wolfpack QB 8 times.
  • Carolina's now 7-1 and plays Louisville next Saturday at Kenan; State is 1-6 and hosts Duke.
