Introduction

Travel Books Review is a 16-page, quarterly newsletter devoted solely to the review of travel books. Guidebooks about major cities, states, and countries in the U.S.A., Europe, and Asia are included in every issue. Other world regions are included as books are made available from the publishers. Travel Books Review also takes a good look at travel literature (personal tales of travel) and travel photo/coffee table books.

Although these two style of books are not as useful on location as a guidebooks, they are excellent aids for trip planning by giving you the flavor of a region (such authors as M.F.K. Fisher, Jan Morris, Tim Cahill and Peter Mayle, easily come to mind) instead of just sightseeing information.

The travel photo books show you what to expect, which also makes them wonderful souvenirs to remind you of your journey, especially if you lack photographic skills. A trend in travel books is combining the factual information of traditional guidebooks with color photographs and illustrations.

Any book that deals with an aspect of travel is examined in our publication. Trail guides, general interest titles about specific travel topics (air courier bargains, cruises, retirement travel, etc.), walking tours, and an occasional cookbook, language guide, and novel are included in our mix of reviews.

All of the reviews published in Travel Books Review are written by professional travel writers and/or veteran travelers, many who travel several thousand miles each year. When they are in the field, they need to use the best guides available. A wrong turn in a remote area or unfamiliar city could lead to an unexpected adventure. Since they have sampled many guides over the years, they will be able to tell you the good and bad points of each book they review for this publication. Their opinions will save you time and money.

With hundreds of new books being published each year, plus the annual updates of such series as Frommer's, Fodor's, and Let's Go, it is often hard to determine the best book for specific travels. Some cover too much, some too little. Some have photographs and illustrations, others just print.

Travel Books Review will help you decide what books to buy for the best value, plus bring to your attention the many unique travel books from smaller-sized publishers that are often overshadowed by the larger publishers who have larger promotion budgets. Chain booksellers often skip these books because they have never heard of them, don't want to stock them due to their narrower or esoteric subject matter, or they are not best sellers like the commonly known series which are safer to sell.

Travel Books Review is your one-stop source of travel books information. No trip should begin without it. If you are still not convinced, take a look at our sample page and some recent reviews to get an idea of what we can offer you. Our Back Issues list gives you a good look at the broad scope of books we review.

Now that you have heard about us, let's hear from you. Simply, fill out our order blank and return it to us with your check or money order. If Travel Books Review is not for you, we will refund the unused portion of your subscription.
