MIDI Time Piece FAQs

  1. Q. My computer will not recognize my MIDI Time Piece.
    A. First, be sure you are using the latest software. MTP I and II users should have console version 1.03 or 1.1 (if you use FreeMIDI). Check your connections; Ideally you should be connected from the computer port of the MTP to the modem or printer port of your Macintosh. Be sure you are not connected to the center Thru port. Additonally, make sure the Thru switch on the front panel is set to MIDI. Fax or modem software installed on your Mac could disrupt the serial port. You should disable it temporarily.

  2. Q. My MTP DA crashes when I select it from the Apple menu.
    A. This will happen if your are still running the original MTP DA 1.0 with a Macintosh Quadra. MTP DA 1.0 is not compatible with 040 caches. Contact technical support for a software update.

  3. Q. MTP I is not saving default setups.
    A. Unlike the MTP II, the MTP I does not have an internal battery. Therefore, default setups can only store for about 48 hours after powering off. To avoid losing precious setups, you may want to save an MTP State setup file and load it when necessary.

  4. Q. When syncing with the MTP, my sequencer runs at double speed.
    A. This usually occurs if the MTP is receiving another MIDI clock while converting SMPTE. This clock could be coming from a drum machine or hardware sequencer. You can mute the clock in the MTP console Event Muting window.

  5. Q. Is there a way to reset the MIDI Time Piece II memory back to its original factory default state?
    A. Yes. To do so, turn the unit off. Hold the front panel Panic button down while powering up the MTP II.

  6. Q. Will the MTP II console software work with an original MIDI Time Piece?
    A. Yes, the MTP II Console controls all the functions on an original MIDI Time Piece. The MTP II does some functions that the original MTP cannot do. These functions will appear as "greyed-out" menu options for users running the MTP II Console with an original MIDI Time Piece.

  7. Q. How do I save a BaseSetup in the MIDI Time Piece II Console Software?
    A. Open the Setups and Modifiers window and select a BaseSetup. This makes the BaseSetup current, and all the windows will reflect the current state of the selected BaseSetup. Edit the windows so they reflect the desired BaseSetup state (note: the scripts area of the Setups and Modifiers window will display a log of your edits). Once you have achieved the desired setup, click onto any other BaseSetup in the Setups and Modifiers window. Your changes will be updated in realtime.
