Iraq Research and Documentation Project

Painting by Jewad Salim

The Iraq Research and Documentation Project is a computerized multi-media database system about the government, politics, and civil society of modern Iraq. It combines in one resource diverse kinds of information (official documents, maps, transcripts of testimonies and other documents of oral history, chronologies, bibliographic references, important articles, reports, photographic and other images, audio tapes, video-taped records). Such a resource transforms research into the workings of a modern state system such as Iraq's, information about which has hitherto largely been of an anecdotal or officially sanctioned nature.
