TestDirector 2.0

Productive Test Management for
High Quality Software Solutions

With TestDirector's enhanced process-oriented user interface developers and testers will be productive every day during any phase of the testing process: from planning and design, automated test creation, manual and automatic test execution, defect tracking and application quality analysis. With full workgroup support, TestDirector is an essential tool to guarantee the fastest way to achieve the highest levels of software quality.

RapidTest: New Frontier
in Test Automation

TestDirector 2.0 provides a powerful new approach to testing, RapidTest. RapidTest is a powerful technology that helps get users started fast. Instead of requiring users to navigate through test management manually, they can use the RapidTest Wizards to help create test plans and to walk through each regression test cycle.

RapidTest Plan Wizard: Get
a Test Plan Started Fast

TestDirector 2.0's new RapidTest Plan Wizard accelerates your entry into the testing process, by providing an easy way to automatically build an initial test plan. Integrated with WinRunner, the Plan Wizard helps users populate the test plan with test scripts. Using WinRunner's Script Wizard, the Plan Wizard orchestrates the creation of a suite of GUI test scripts, and saves the scripts in its database while automatically building a test plan. This highly productive, automated test planning quick start makes TestDirector the only test management tool that starts creation of a test plan and scripts automatically.

The new RapidTest PlanWizard lets you point and click to structure the plan; then it can generate the WinRunner test scripts automatically.

RapidTest Cycle Wizard:
Walk Through a Regression Cycle the Easy Way

TestDirector 2.0's new RapidTest Cycle Wizard helps developers quickly build each set of regression tests. As tests are added or become obsolete in the database, developers and testers have a fast and intuitive way to select the right tests for the next test cycle's goal. Its intuitive, drag-and-drop interface, and step-by-step wizard helps users quickly assemble a test cycle and organize regression test runs in synch with every code build. Cycle Wizard also manages test cycle results independently, creating test result histories to help know whether application quality is improving or not.

With its intuitive, drag-and-drop interface, the RapidTest Cycle Wizard helps you organize sets of regression tests efficiently.

Productive, Process-Oriented User Interface

The all new process-oriented user interface in TestDirector 2.0 helps users move easily between any phase of the testing process. With its all new user interface and its new quick access Process Toolbar, users can quickly and easily navigate through their test plan and testing process. The Process Toolbar provides a quick interface to six key steps of the testing process:

Test Plan: testers can create a full scale test plan and design steps for all the tests needed well before application development is completed¬even before the application exists.

Floating toolbar makes it easy to move between TestDirector's facilities.

Test Case Design: the test case design tool helps users define key steps and expected results for each test case. This structured sequence of user actions and check points can be used as step-by-step check-list for documenting your test case.

Test Creation: the on-line test case can be used for manually testing your application, or to generate a fully documented script in WinRunner for automated test execution. By combining manual and automated test execution in the same repository, TestDirector can address testing needs throughout all functionality of the application.

Automated and Manual Test Execution: TestDirector organizes the running of tests as cycles, or groups of tests, running them in batches. Its test execution tools provide batch and launch of automated tests, supports manual test walk-through, one-touch link to WinRunner's visual reporting details, management of full test histories for each test case¬by test cycle¬and full bug reports can be issued directly from the test case results. TestDirector's integrated support for both manual and automated test execution means testers can begin running tests and tracking progress, even as automated tests are developed.

Bug Tracking: bugs can easily be associated with the tests that found them. TestDirector can track predicted and actual bug fix time. After each fix, both the developer and the tester can run the same test again to ensure that the bug has been eliminated. The Bug Tracking tool includes e-mail bug reports, as well as outbound notification of select bug status to a list of e-mail subscribers. TestDirector also comes with a standalone Remote Bug Reporter application to help capture bugs found outside the development organization.

Summary Statistics for Decision Support: TestDirector helps address the most basic goal of the testing process: assessing application readiness for deployment. A broad range of pre-formatted graphs and reports help gauge ongoing testing progress. Users can easily customize and save their own queries to analyze any test process data. At any time users can move from one step to another in the testing process, providing structure, organization, and process to make sure everything about your client/server application is being tested, that the testing process is on track, and to ultimately determine when the system is ready for deployment.

The process-oriented user interface also includes built-in methodology online. It provides guidelines for organizing your testing process, as well as quick tips on process of testing your application so that the highest quality levels can be obtained.

Using Quick Summary, you can assess your progress towards application deployment instantaneously.

Quick Summary for Instant Results

TestDirector's quality snapshot, called Quick Summary, gives developers and testers an overall picture of the application quality anytime during the testing process. A Quick Summary snapshot provides an instant overview of the testing effort, showing exactly what is needed to assess application readiness. Quick Summary can compile a brief history of results by the last test cycle, by number of weeks, or by full historical data. By quantifying and organizing a set of key measures and indicators, it gives the answers to the ultimate question in testing: how ready is the application to deploy?

TestSuite is a full suite of state-of-the-art testing tools, integrated together for client/server testing automation, providing a cost effective solution. TestSuite includes WinRunner and TestDirector, thereby including the advanced new RapidTest technology that helps users quickly, easily and automatically start generating test plans and test scripts.

TestSuite comes in a standard edition that includes both WinRunner and TestDirector, designed for testing Windows client applications.

TestSuite Professional is designed for testing 16 and 32-bit client applications for Windows, Windows95, and Windows NT.

System Requirements

TestDirector is designed for managing the testing process for client/server application development on Windows, Windows95, Windows NT, and OS/2.

The minimum hardware and software requirements are: An IBM personal computer or 100% compatible with 80486 (or higher) processor; 12Mb RAM minimum, (16Mb recommended or larger when used with WinRunner, allowing for the memory requirements of the tested application).

For Windows, use DOS 3.3 or higher with Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroup 3.1; and 12Mb hard disk space.

For Windows 95 or Windows NT, use Windows95 or Windows NT 3.51; and 12Mb hard disk space. For OS/2, use OS/2 Warp.
