The SG01v realistically reproduces 256 of the best vintage synth sounds using the same powerful processor as the world leading Akai S-series samplers. Recreate the Prophet 5, MiniMoog, Jupiter 6, PPG Wave 2.2, DX7, D50, ARP Solina string synths, Ensoniq ESQ1 vocal, TR808 drums and percussion, TR727 Latin percussion and Simmons SDS5 drum synth. Akai sampled the raw, basic oscillator waves of these legendary instruments to allow all filter sweeps and processing to be done by the SG01v's own circuitry. This makes the sound much more flexible and maintains constant modulation rates across the keyboard range. The SG01v can have up to 4 oscillators, 24dB/8ve lowpass filters (or split between lowpass resonant and multi-mode resonant filters), 2 x LFOs (triangle, square, sawtooth, random and note-on random) and 3 x envelope generators per voice.
It can be used as a single channel or a 16-channel multi-timbral sound module, and has Key Parameter Editing (envelope shape, filter cutoff and resonance) accessible from the front panel as well as more extensive facilities via a MIDI controller. Further features make use of Akai's own APM - the full modulation routing of controllers to modules, portamento, a single triggering mode for accurate monosynth bass articulation, 30 reverb effects and 2 sets of drum/percussion sounds.

The SG01k is a PCM module conforming to the General MIDI standard (GM), fully controllable from a personal computer or external MIDI controller, incorporating 189 melodic and 124 percussion preset sounds sourced via the acclaimed sampling technology of the Akai S-series samplers. The SG01k will accurately play back all GM compatible song files and is thus most useful for multi-media presentations, for providing covering backing tracks and as invaluable aid for busy songwriters to sketch out material at speed. Editing is possible via the front panel or through the 8 pin mini DIN computer interface. It has 30 reverb types and different effect send levels, which can be individually set up for 16 parts.
