Brian Johnson, our Internet Guide, joined us to help us get digital. Brian told us about how getting on the Internet once was like being in a private club, a closed society. But then businesses saw opportunity in making it easier to log on and access the Internet. "Getting on the Internet is easy," Brian says. He mentioned some of the on-line services that provide Web access and called up the home pages for CompuServe and Prodigy.
Brian told us to look for three basic things when you are looking for a service provider. Price, reliablity, and access. First, you want to be able to afford your service. Many of the services have different price structures, so get one that benefits you. Second, you also want it to be reliable. Make sure that your membership will let you log on at high usage time, and that the system "down time" is not when you will be surfing. Last, but not least, is the ability to access your service. Every system has only so many phone lines connected to it. You want to make sure your provider has the ability for provide access to a lot of traffic.
