Major Goals of Training Program:

This allergy/clinical immunology training program is fully integrated with balanced training in both adult and pediatric clinical allergy- immunology. In addition, it is balanced with almost equal time being spent in clinical training, teaching, and research. Residents in the program are expected to actively participate in a clinical and/or basic research project, and to present this scientific work at an appropriate national/regional meeting. A clinical medical center ward is available for admission of research patients under approval of allergy-immunology protocols. Moreover, residents are also encouraged to prepare this work for publication in an appropriate medical/scientific journal. Both adult and pediatric allergy-clinical immunology clinics are characterized by a wide assortment and range of allergy-immunological disorders. Full time faculty in other disciplines, who also have a specific interest in allergy and immunological disorders, are readily available for additional expertise in the fields of immune deficiencies, pulmonary, otolaryngology, dermatology, and ophthalmology. The recent establishment of the UVA Beirne Carter Immunology Center provides even further immunology resources for allergy immunology residents.
