Flashback

Texas Tech climbed within 14-9 in the third quarter, but the Nebraska running game went to work in wearing the Red Raiders down and claiming a 42-16 triumph at Jones Stadium on Sept. 8, 1994.

With Nebraska ahead 14-3 entering the third quarter, Tech took the second-half kickoff and moved 80 yards in nine plays to a touchdown. The score came on a 6-yard pass from Zebbie Lethridge to tight end Scott Aylor. The Raiders' attempt for a two-point conversion failed.

The No. 1-ranked Cornhuskers went right to work, rolling 82 yards on consecutive touchdown drives in taking a 28-16 lead. Running back Lawrence Phillips led the way with 19 carries for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Tommie Frazier had 84 yards on 13 carries and also scored twice. He opened the scoring with a 58-yard TD jaunt at the 12:59 mark of the first quarter.

Tech's final touchdown came with 6:24 remaining in the game when offensive tackle Ben Kaufman recovered a fumble in the end zone. Jon Davis' kick made it 35-16 before Nebraska's Clinton Childs scored on a 30-yard run with two minutes remaining.

Lethridge connected on five of 14 passes for 46 yards. Field Scovell had four catches for 74 yards. Lethridge was Tech's leading rusher with 62 yards on six carries.

Raider linebacker Zach Thomas finished with 14 tackles.

The loss halted a six-game regular-season winning streak for the Raiders.
