AWARD SOFTWARE ESTABLISHES A JAPANESE SUBSIDIARY

Mountain View, Calif. — Award Software International Inc. (Nasdaq:AWRD), the world's No. 1 x86-based desktop and server BIOS provider, today announced it has established Award Japan KK, a majority-owned subsidiary that will increase the company's marketing and support efforts in the growing Japanese PC market.

The Yokohama-based subsidiary will be headed by Reza Afghan, who has been a vice president of Award Software since 1994. As president and CEO of Award Japan KK, Mr. Afghan will report to George Huang, chairman and CEO of Award Software.

"Award intends to become a leading player in the mobile and embedded computing markets worldwide, and we believe our success in the x86-based desktop and server BIOS markets gives us an excellent platform from which to expand," said Mr. Huang. "With a focused presence close to the customer, our new subsidiary positions us to increase our market share and build important long-term customer relationships."

Sun Electronics Corporation, a multinational leading designer and manufacturer of communication and entertainment hardware and software products, is another investor in Award Japan KK.
