Boom : the DECStation

Boom has suffered through a lot, but it still keeps going. Boom is a DECStation 5000/25 with a 25 MHz MIPS R3000 processor, 16 MB of RAM, a 425 MB hard drive, a 2.1 GB hard drive, and is running DEC Ultrix 4.2A. Boom currently does not have a monitor. It used to serve filespace for everyone, but that capacity has been moved out to the more spacious SPARCservers. It still sticks around as storage for other projects and source code, and is the primary NTP server and a secondary mail server for the lab.

Most of the administration of boom is handled by Brent Metz ( and Andy Berkheimer (
