EEMA would like to invite your company to participate in Challenge.97@Electronic.Commerce.Europe. The aim of the Challenge is to unite Industry Leaders to Remove barriers to Secure Global Electronic Commerce and Messaging.

Challenge Overview
One of the main barriers to widespread international usage of secure electronic messaging to effect commercial transactions is about to be broken. EEMA, the leading European forum for Advanced Business Communications, are undertaking a major industry initiative. The initiative involves Major Service Supplies and Product Vendors. They will demonstrate secure messaging over different networks and computing platforms is not only technically feasible but can be used to satisfy business oriented needs for electronic commerce in a practical way.

The EEMA European activity will build upon The WEMA (The World Electronic Messaging Associations) Challenge. WEMA are undertaking a world wide co-ordinated effort to create an X.500 directory infrastructure, including both public and private directories, that support directory enabled applications such as secure messaging, voice messaging, coloured pages and others. The WEMA Challenge is currently being undertaken in the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Brazil and Japan. This Challenge is conceived as a slice of a real-world public, interoperable, directory infrastructure. This is critical to the realisation of the benefits of electronic commerce, EDI and electronic messaging.

The Proposal
The proposal is organisations, will undertake an activity to lead up to the implementation of functions and protocols to enable a messaging user to:

All of the actions mentioned above are essentially simple. To ensure that simplicity is maintained the 'attachments' being referred to will be files that can be created and modified using standard programmes (such as MS Word, Excel, WordPerfect, etc.). The demonstrations of secure EDI (which for the purposes of this document is considered as being computer to computer communications rather than person to person is excluded.

The European public demonstration of this initiative will take place at the Exhibition at Electronic Commerce, Europe '97 , organised by EEMA, which will take place in Maastricht, Netherlands, from 15 - 18 June, 1997.

The Participants
This is truly a collaborative undertaking and participation is required from: Messaging service Providers; Directory Service Providers and Software Providers and Software vendors (for both messaging and security applications). In addition, to lend weight and credibility to the demonstrations, User Organisations must be included. The following companies and organisations are collaborating in the Challenging.

Participation Form

There are two levels of participation which your company can choose to become involved in:

1. Basic Participation:
Challenge participants with a vested interest in the success of the Challenge, and who have completed a formal participation form.
Your company may participate in the testing and/or be a part of the Challenge infrastructure at no charge. Your company will be listed as a contributor to the Challenge effort.
There is no charge for Basic Participation

2. Show Floor Participant:
Show floor participants are companies that wish to participate in the Challenge testing and in the Challenge exhibition and demonstration at Electronic Commerce Europe'97 in Maastricht in June. Participation in the Challenge demonstration means connecting into the demonstration from an exhibit booth on the show floor.

Your company may participate in the testing and/or be a part of the Challenge infrastructure.

Your company will be fully recognised in Challenge Marketing material.

There will be a fee of 1000 GBP to cover marketing costs. This fee will cover marketing coverage on the EEMA web site, inclusion in Public Relations articles, coverage in Flyers, Exhibition Stand Graphics, Invitations to the Press Launch and the Challenge Launch party for you and your customers, inclusion in the Programme Guide and Exhibition trail. There may also be a fee to cover costs of a show network; this will not exceed 1000 GBP, (a shownet will be provided if agreed by the majority of participants).
