Introducing M.A.M.E. , the best arcade emulator!

In the beginning of 1997, an Italian programmer called Nicola Salmoria started programming emulators, which were first seen on The Repository, a site dedicated to new emulation projects and sharing source code with other starting programmers. The first emulator I saw from him was Rally X, and later many more standalone emulators surfaced on The Repository, and even some multi game emulators (Multi Pacman, running all the different clones) as well. It seemed nobody paid much attention to his efforts at that time, since Sparcade had just hit the scene, and had some really cool, fully emulated games, unlike Nicola's efforts. Time passed, and Nicola started on his Multi Arcade Machine Emulator, or MAME how it is now known to the general public.

Today it's a different story, MAME has become THE arcade emulator around, being ported to the Macintosh, various Unix systems and even the nearly forgotten Amiga. A really hardcore fanbase has been built up over the past few months, and every monday there has been a new release of the PC version of MAME, each time incorporating support for even more games. Within hours, portovers are being released for the other systems as well, because of the source code being made widely available by the author.

MAME is now being coordinated by Mirko Buffoni, and game drivers are being submitted by nearly all the emulator authors around. Supporting more than 200 games, it will take up most of your spare time to relive your youth, or, if you are a youngster, giving you a full briefing of gaming history as most of us know it. Thanks to MAME (and ofcourse all the other emulators being released all the time), the memory of classic arcade gaming will live on forever, and future generations will be able to see what those old games where all about. If you love your games, you better check out this brilliant emulator, and this page is entirely dedicated to the project. Have FUN!

Mail Overflow (or, how I am going slightly insane...)

I receive a lot of mail daily (think of approximately 200-300 emails a day), and while I read allmost all of it, it is impossible for me to reply to them all. While I enjoy updating the pages, playing the emulators and chatting with fellow emulation fans on IRC, I do NOT enjoy remailing everybody, simply because it will set me back several hours a day to do so. Please keep this in mind before mailing me with your questions, I might not have the time to respond to them.

IRC Channel dedicated to MAME

Why not visit me and other siteops, fans and authors live on IRC EFNET on the #mamegames channel, the server I usually use is irc.nijenrode.nl:6667. Alternatively, try to use irc.sprynet.com:6667 if you are a non-european. If you have any questions, you can find me under the alias/nick/handle of 'delite_AH'. If I am not online, then you could try and ask one of the other chanops for help.

What is expected in M.A.M.E. V0.30

For the first time I am able to present you with true facts about the forthcoming release of MAME instead of just rumors and hearsay. Before you start sending me mail, no I DON'T know the release date. Be patient.
