ClarkNet is pleased to announce that Verio Inc., a national Internet Services Provider based in Denver, Colorado, has expanded its network of locally managed Internet providers by acquiring a majority interest in ClarkNet. This is an excellent testimony about ClarkNet's commitment to quality service. One of ClarkNet's strengths has been, and will continue to be, the delivery of a complete set of Internet solutions to the residential, middle market and larger corporate customer.
According to Jamie Clark, "We truly value each customer and intend to maintain our existing products and services. The Verio investment will allow us to expand upon and improve our already solid service. This really does represent a win-win situation for our customers, employees and Verio." Excerpts from the recent press release follow. Please note that there is a concentrated focus on the business market; however, ClarkNet will always provide a full set of Internet services to the Mid-Atlantic market.
The ClarkNet acquisition adds to Verio's rapid growth as one of the nation's largest Internet services providers for small and mid-size business. Since launching in March, Verio has consolidated and strengthened prominent regional Internet providers to create a network that already serves 28 of the top 50 U.S. markets.
Founded in 1996, Verio Inc. has received a total of $250 million in equity and debt financing to build a new national network that combines the strength of a high-speed backbone and premier customer care with the service of prominent local and regional Internet providers across the country. Members of the Verio group of Internet service providers deliver secure, reliable connectivity and a full range of Internet applications for business and institutional customers, including Web hosting and co-location services, commerce and transaction services and security solutions.
We are excited about the opportunities the venture with Verio will create for both our customers and ClarkNet. "Verio's national network and resources provide us with the infrastructure and capital we need to further assist our business customers as they utilize and benefit from Internet applications," said ClarkNet Chief Executive Officer Andrew E. Clark. As a Verio company, ClarkNet will offer direct access to Verio's high-capacity national backbone, peering relationships, engineering support and a sophisticated network operations center providing 24-hour customer service.
"ClarkNet adds dimension and strength to Verio's East Coast presence, thanks to its pioneering work providing ISDN centrex services and developing interactive database-driven Web sites," said Verio President and Chief Operating Officer Mark Johnson. "The Washington/Baltimore metroplex is a key Internet market and Verio's presence through affiliate Internet Online and now ClarkNet demonstrates our commitment to this business community."
