Come on and join the caravan
Put your culture hat on and get ready to experience worldly adventures as Cultural Caravan '98 hits campus next week.

The caravan stops in the University Community Centre atrium Monday with opening ceremonies and free cake beginning at 11:30 a.m., said Patty Belda, international students commissioner for the USC.

Monday will feature dancers from different countries such as Peru, Spain and India. There will also be a craft sale in the atrium from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Belda said.

Getting to the root of the law
The Muslim Legal Society and the Muslim Students' Association is welcoming Jamal Badawi to speak at Western tomorrow.

Badawi is a professor of law at St. Mary's University in Nova Scotia and will deliver a speech entitled, "The roots of Islamic law: the life of Mohammad," said Hussein Hamdani, a member of the society.

The free lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Rm. 38 of the Josephine Spencer Niblett Law Building.

Baraka bustin' beats
It's time to put a little beat to some artsy film.

Tonight at midnight in the University Community Centre's McKellar Room, Western students are planning to show the movie Baraka but with a twist – they will create their own soundtrack for the film.

Mike Oliver, the disc jockey for the event, said he plans to put the film to some trip hop, hip hop with a little drum and bass. The power of some scenes in the film can be increased if put to different music, Oliver said.
