"Ghosts" shown at International Short Film Festival

08 Aug 97
Special screening of Michael Jackson's 35-minute short film "Ghost" was shown at the opening night of the 1997 Palm Springs International Short Film Festival (in California), on August 6. The festival organizers told MJIFC that Ghost was shown at a special screening but is not part of the competition. Bruce Fessier described the festivities in an article published in the Dessert Sun the following day, "The opening night of the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival showcased the potential of short film and video and the talent of Michael Jackson. Almost 450 people filled the Palm Springs Dessert Museum's Annenberg Theater on Wednesday to view 2.5 hours of films.....and a screening of Jackson's 40-minute short musical film, Ghost, with remarks by its director, Stan Winston. ...... the night ended with praise for Jackson. The crowd buzzed over the special effects in Ghost, and the skill Jackson exhibited by playing all the lead characters with diverse looks and voices. Q Magazine reviews Blood on the Dance Floor

08 Aug 97
Q Magazine's review of Blood On The Dance Floor - HIStory In The Mix - "A curious collection of remixes and live new songs that has been overshadowed by the arrival of the self-styled "king of pop's" progeny. However, if you can forget Jackson's private life for a moment and concentrate on his musical expertise, it will be hard to deny him respect. New song Morphine alone will set your head spinning. A massive, sprawling and surprisingly dark tune written, produced, arranged and in no small part played by Jackson, the song reminds you why there was such a fuss about the child prodigy in the first place. The eight remixes (including re-workings of Earth Song, 2 Bad and Stranger in Moscow) are generally flash and fun, with big names Todd Terry, Frankie Knuckles and David Morales providing the entertaining makeovers. " **** (four stars), by Howard Johnson [Q - August 1997 issue]

Michael will hold concerts in Cape Town and Durban reported record first-day concert sales. Stein said 15 000 of the 36 000 available tickets for the Cape Town concert, and 25 000 of 40 000 available in Durban, were sold yesterday. Tour highlights from Epic/Sony

31 Jul 97
At the start of the Michael Jackson History Tour on September 7th 1996 in Prague, just under a dozen dates had been announced....... Six months later when the History World Tour reached the island of Oahu in Hawaii, it had already circumvented the earth, visited 42 Stadiums in 20 countries and been enjoyed by 2,2 million people. This was threatening to become serious......

After a short break in early 1997, the History World Tour took to the road again, starting in Bremen on May 31st 1997. Within a week of commencement of the tour, a record half a million tickets were sold in Germany alone.... By the time the tour reached Holland, Michael had filled another two Amsterdam Stadiums, bringing to five the total number of shows in Holland. Dutch History had been made with a record quarter of a million Dutchmen going to see the show. In a country of 14 million people that's just under 2% of the population !
Michael Jackson's History World Tour threatened further History during two sold out shows at Munich's Olympic Stadium, where, using state of the art Digital High Definition cameras - a system so advanced it will only be truly appreciated in future generations, the History World Tour was immortalised when it was captured with 13 cameras on multi media film.

Meanwhile, back in the UK, the Box office figures for Michael Jackson's concerts clocked up another 212,601 tickets during his July UK Wembley shows. But the ticket clock had been on for much longer.... sometime during the afternoon of Thursday 17th of July - unbeknown to the innocent lad purchasing his ticket for that night's show.... a record was being set ..... ON THAT NIGHT, THE FINAL RECKONING WAS TO BE... on that night, the total ticket sales for MICHAEL JACKSON concerts at WEMBLEY STADIUM had reached ONE MILLION IN TOTAL. For between the BAD, the DANGEROUS and the NOW - HISTORY had been made.
