Network Operations Center for the Abilene Project Announced
As part of UCAID’s Abilene Project, Indiana University will provide day-to-day support for the world’s most advanced and far-reaching research and education network.

UCAID at INET’98
As news of the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID) and its Internet2 and Abilene projects gathered US national interest, so has the curiosity and attention of people around the world.  The UCAID International site is now under development in order to better address the questions presented to us from our international visitors.

UCAID International Web Site Launched

Abilene Project Web Site Launched
The Abilene Project Web site has all the latest information about the fastest and most far-reaching research network in the world, including technical information, answers to frequently asked questions, and how UCAID members can register their interest in connecting.

UCAID Spring Member Meeting
UCAID hosted the spring member meeting in Washington, D.C. on April 15, 1998. The meeting provided updates on the efforts of the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development, home of the Internet2 Project and the Abilene Project.

Vice President Al Gore Announces New UCAID Abilene Project
Vice President Al Gore unveiled the most advanced and far-reaching research and education network in the world. The Internet Protocol (IP) network, called Abilene, is being developed by the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID), through access to the nationwide Qwest fiber optic network and technologies provided by Cisco Systems and Nortel (Northern Telecom).

Expert Advisory Councils Appointed
The University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID) announced the initial members of three advisory committees that will guide higher education's advanced networking efforts, including the Internet2 project. Drawn from industry, academia and government, the advisory committee members have all made significant contributions to Internet development, and will assist UCAID in the areas of advanced application development, network policy and planning, and network research.
