I am interested in platypusses because they exhibit the only known case of novel sensory evolution in all of Mammalia-- electroreception. In the contents of these web pages, I will discuss platypus electroreception with regard to platypus phylogeny, ecology and behavior. Furthermore, I hope to elucidate as much of the neural mechanism underlying electroreception in the platypus as possible.
