The heads of state or government of the world's leading industrialised nations have met annually since 1975 to address the major economic and political issues facing their nations and the international community as a whole.

The United Kingdom is hosting the 1998 meeting of the group, now renamed 'G8' following the inclusion of Russia as a full member, in and around the English city of Birmingham.

This is the official web site for the event, a collaborative venture between the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Birmingham City Council / Birmingham Marketing Partnership and Newsteam International / Picdar Group. It is being updated live from the International Convention Centre with news and reference material for media, delegates and Internet users worldwide.
