Midway to Dreamcast

Three new titles officially confirmed

December 11, 1998

Midway today officially announced its first generation Dreamcast titles.

While none of them are surprising – all three games have been on our rumored list for a while – it’s good to finally hear confirmation of what looks like three great titles.

First up is Hydro Thunder, a conversion of Midway’s brand new boat racing coin-op. It’s a highly enjoyable game that blends stunning graphics with speedy, addictive aquatic racing. The game won’t make Dreamcast’s launch, but could well hit by early 2000.

Next on the list is a Mortal Kombat game. The nature of this title is still a closely-guarded secret, but it is known that it’s a hybrid of Mk4 and will feature all the characters from that game as well as a roster of new guys 'n' gals. This one is also expected very early in 2000.

The last one – and the one we’re all waiting for – is NFL Blitz 2000, a souped-up version of the highly popular NFL Blitz (like you couldn’t guess that, right?). The good news is that this will be a launch title, so expect it to see it in September 99. Wahey!

All this is great news: we’ll continue to dig for more details. So sit tight (and if you do, you'll probably be able to poop a very good replica of the Dreamcast logo).
