The multicast routing daemon is needed if your machine is either routing multicast traffic between multiple network segments, or providing a tunnel to another MBONE site. Other utilites come in this package for getting status from multicast routers and charting the layout of multicast routers.
SD acts as a session managment tool. It gathers information on active sessions on the MBONE, creates new sessions, and launches applications to join a session.
This is an excellent tool for sending video over the Internet. It supports multiple image sizes, and has it's own controls for limiting bandwidth use. It generates a separate window for each incoming image, so you can arrange your conference as you please.
In an attempt to jump start those who are interested in doing multicasting with Linux, I've collected all the Linux binaries listed above into one TAR file. The file containes binaries for map-mbone, mcast_chk, mdump, mrinfo, mrouted, mtrace, nv, sd, sd_listen, vat, vic, and wb.
Unfortunately, many of these programs are staticly linked X Window executables, so the file is quite large (2.5 MB). The only thing that has made this file manageable was the fact that I stripped off all the debuging information, so don't use these if you want to do debugging. The file was 6.6 MB before that.
A separate file contains the man pages for nv, vat, vic, map-mbone, mrinfo, mrouted, and mtrace. Please be kind to my poor 128Kbps link and try to download these during off hours if possible. Thanks.
Conference controller for media sessions.
NeVoT is an audio conferencing tool from the same organization that produced isc. It obtains audio samples from the workstation and sends them as packets on attached networks. It also receives packets and plays the audio samples on the workstation audio device. Each instance of NeVoT can handle one or more audio conferences.
