(Jan 5, 1998 - 10:24 EST) - There's no argument as far as the Scripps Howard News Service computer power ratings are concerned. Nebraska is the best college football team in the country, and Michigan is no better than fifth.

The Cornhuskers, fresh from their whipping of Tennessee in the Orange Bowl, finished No. 1 with 114.2 points. Florida State is second at 112.9, followed by SEC powers Florida and Tennessee.

Michigan earned 111.4 points, according to the computer. Georgia was sixth and Auburn seventh, giving the SEC four of the top seven teams.

Numbers to the left are team rankings. Numbers to the right are the current power ratings. To determine the projected margin, compare the ratings of the rival teams and allow four points for typical home field advantage.
