THE STREAK:  24 FOR RAW
It's gotten boring to repeat the same basic thing week after week (i.e. "RAW wins the ratings"), so maybe by making a game of it will help...  we'll report the ratings in terms of the current winning streak, in this case, RAW's streak.

They made it 24 in a row with another solid ratings win on Monday.  Off hours of 5.7 and 6.4, RAW averaged a 6.1.  With hours of 4.2, 4.0, and 4.1, Nitro averaged a 4.1 (both head-to-head and for the three hour composite).  Mike will have quarter hour breakdowns in a future MiCasa update, if I know him.

Other ratings for the past week or so:   Heat did a 4.1, Thunder did a 3.2, LiveWire did 2.3.  No other shows broke the 2.0 barrier.

THE AXE
Several WWF superstars were give their termination notices at the last set of TV Tapings. The names being tossed out so far are Golga (John Tenta), The Legion of Doom, Steve "Dr. Death" Williams, The Blue Meanie, Gillberg (Duane Gill), The Public Enemy, and Fatu, who was still under contract. Apparently Jim Cornette was also let go. The DOA match was dropped from Heat and they were not at the TV tapings, which leads to speculation that they may be on the hit list. Also absent from the tapings was (CRZ sit down if you're standing) Steve Blackman.

RATINGS:  2 POINT WIN MAKES IT 23 IN A ROW FOR RAW
The WWF may still have about a year to go if they want to match Nitro's record for consecutive weeks of kicking ass on Monday nights...  but with a strong 6.3 composite (hours of 6.3 and 6.2), RAW earned its 23rd consecutive head-to-head win over Nitro, a streak dating back to October 26 of last year.  In the last 52 calendar weeks, Nitro only has 7 head-to-head wins against RAW.  This week, against RAW's 6.3, Nitro posted hours of 4.4, 4.1, and 4.6; both the head-to-head and the three-hour composite average out to a 4.4.

Full quarter hours and other weekend ratings info will be posted in a future MiCasa update..

NASH v DDP?
Don't hand out the awards to Kevin Nash for doing the clean job to Goldberg just yet. There's already talk that Nash took the fall because he's on his way to getting the world title. Apparently Nash v. DDP will headline the next WCW PPV, and Nash will score the win and the belt. So he'll be the booker and World Champion. That's a lot of power.
WCW'S "PEOPLE'S CHAMP" IS NOW WORLD CHAMP
ddp.jpg (7716 bytes)In what's gotta be one of the more surprising world title changes since Bret Hart catapulted to champion status in 1991, Dallas Page made the leap from upper-mid-carder to instant main eventer by coming out on top of Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Sting to win the WCW World Title at Spring Stampede.  DDP got a little help from guest ref Randy Savage to best Sting and Flair, while Hogan was taken out of the match early due to an injured knee.

Complete results of WCW's Spring Stampede PPV are available now in WrestleManiacs.Com's PPV Central.

SMITH RELEASED?
Reports are that yesterday Dave Boy Smith received his termination notice from World Championship Wrestling via special delivery. Smith is still hospitalized in Calgary due to a severe infection in his back, and he will remain there for at least three more months. Now granted, Smith has been inactive for several weeks now, and it's possible that his wrestling career is over, and I suppose WCW had a business decision to make. But (if the story is true) this is certainly questionable timing ... to say the least. Bear in mind that this is the same company that signed Mikey Whipwreck, Vampiro, Sandman and others to contracts well before they even had an idea what to do with them.

PILLMAN MEMORIAL '99
Just as we did last year, we strongly encourage our readers throughout the midwest to support the Brian Pillman Memorial Card this year...  the event will be at the Cincinnati Gardens on May 19, and will feature the stars of the WWF, WCW, and ECW (the only time the top stars of the major feds will get together on the same major card this year).  Even if you're not in the area, we encourage you to find out how you can follow the event or make donations to the Brian Pillman fund by checking out the event's official website.

The confirmed double main event for the May 19 show includes Chris Jericho facing Dean Malenko (with Mark Curtis as the special guest ref!) and Mankind taking on D-Lo Brown.  The Road Dogg will face Al Snow in another big match.  Steve Austin, Ric Flair, and Bret Hart will also all be in the building in non-wrestling capacities to help honor and remember Brian Pillman, while raising money for his family.

THE RATTLESNAKE REIGNS AGAIN!
austin.jpg (5668 bytes)A show that harkened back to the unabashedly happy endings of WrestleManias past, WrestleMania 15 closed with Stone Cold Steve Austin pinning "The Rock" Rocky Maivia to win the WWF Title (as special ref Mankind counted three), then proceeding to down a six pack of Coors Light while assaulting WWF owner Vince McMahon in front of an ecstatic crowd.

In other results:  "The Big Show" Paul Wight was disqualified for excessive abuse of Mankind (and then an upset Vince McMahon berated Wight until Wight snapped and attacked McMahon), Bob Holly regained the Hardcore Title, while other champs all retained their gold.  Complete results are available now in WrestleManiacs.Com's PPV Central (link corrected!).

THE ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA XV
There can be little doubt that WrestleMania is wrestling's "crown jewel" of PPV, the proverbial "Grand-daddy of them all."  The amazing thing is that it's sustained that title for all of its fourteen years, and looks ready to blow us away again this year.

To help you get ready for the big show, WrestleManiacs.Com has updated and expanded it's "Road to WrestleMania" feature for 1999, with a look back at all past 'Manias and plenty of useful and bizarre statistics and observations for you.   Check out the latest edition (corrected on March 26).

SCOTT STEINER TO SERVE "HARD TIME"
"Big Poppa Pump" has been ordered to serve 10 days in a Cherokee (GA) County jail as a result of a recent incident in which Steiner attacked a Department of Transportation worker who was trying to prevent him from driving on a closed section of Interstate 575.  Steiner must also pay $25,000 in fines, perform 200 hours of community service, and will be on probation for the next 7 years.

14 TIMES THE MAN, AS THE HORSEMEN RIDE AGAIN!
flair.jpg (7814 bytes)Well....  Ric Flair did it.  He beat Hulk Hogan to win the WCW Title, marking the 14th time Flair's held a world title, while fellow Horsemen won the tag straps earlier in the show.  But in the process, Flair may have started down the road to once again working as a heel.  Throughout the match, fans cheered Hogan -- who worked the entire match as a babyface -- and only really popped for Flair when he won the match (thanks to a little help from Arn Anderson).

The match capped off a show that was the WCW standard these days:  ring work that puts the WWF's major shows to shame, with storytelling and atmosphere that lag behind the competition.  Complete results of the event can be read in WrestleManiacs.Com's PPV Central.
