Less content! More teens! More smut!

Why is nobody commenting? Doesn''t anyone read this durn thing?
Contributed by Jorn Barger (jorn@mcs.com) on March 6, 1998.
Actually that last comment was from me - testing to see if you could put "any" email address. I like how it''s organized by the Moon!

Readership is growing pretty slowly, alas.

Back in January, Dave Winer sent 400 visitors this way, but only 20 or so stuck around, and the daily hitcount is still around 50.

I''m assuming that there are hundreds of surfers who''ll find the log invaluable, once they discover it. But I''m running low on ideas for how to catch their attention...

Contributed by Jorn (jorn@mcs.com) on March 9, 1998.
50 hits/day is nothing for a commercial site but I''m not sure that it''s that bad for this log, either. How many other logs are there like this? You should make a list. I''m surprised more of those 50 hitters dont comment...
Contributed by j. delaney (appleholic87@hotmail.com) on March 9, 1998.
The list of other logs is under the "sources" shorttake.

And I use the netnews rule-of-thumb that says for everey person who posts there''s 99 who lurk-- which means I''m lucky to get any comments at all!

Thanks

It''d be nice to have those images that break up the logs (like yesterday''s Hitch) hotlinked to the page/site where it came from...

Heh. Amazingly, all the unattributed images are frame-grabs off my (non-cable) ATI tv-in-a-Mac.

Some come out really nice!

Yee haw! Jorn put a graphic header up. We''ll make a fancy dancy web designer type out of ya yet Jorn.

Check out http://www.unomas.com - the reviews suite. It''d offer a whole new level of organization for your web comments. I''m having a few troubles with it at the moment, bug Greg will surely work them out.

Also, the Ocha suite looks pretty nice for an automated news page.

Registered psyberspace.net this week as I''ve been maxed out on diskspace for many months now. So, as soon as the Ocha folks get the windows macbird hack done, we should get some nice crosslink action working.

Note, with the content server and reviews suite, you could have your system automatically publish web reviews submitted via email from others in the respective categories (even if it be the "guest category").

Thanks for the pointer on PFAU, I''m finding it very handy on my win laptop. PsyberSpace.net will be highly audiofied.

What''s holding you back from doing the occasional voice rant Jorn? The real audio 5 encoder is free, and 8k voice streams turn out to be tiny.

Where ya been? That was months ago!

First things first-- I want my archives to sort automatically by category.

>What''s holding you back from doing the occasional voice rant Jorn?

I never download audio, still. I''d like to play with sequencing, and have SoundEdit 16, but haven''t dug into it.

Yea! A great site. On my must-check list several times a day. Thanks.

A must read! For afficiandos of James Joyce and the web alike. I browse the ''bot a couple times a week and find myself fully engaged for . . . oh, at least a half hour.

Why do you expect people to leave comments here? They''re so boring I couldn''t read them... Weblog is far more interesting...

Excellent site! Perfect for all scanners out there. Anybody know similar sites (except the ones listed in the resources)?

Thanks for creating this Web log. I''ve been visiting two or three times a day. I''ve also taken your suggestion and started my own surfing discoveries page, the Honeyguide Web Log.

By the way, does anyone else find the format of this comments page a little confusing? It would make more sense to me if the byline were centered below the comment. Otherwise it looks like each byline should refer to the comment that follows it.

I do not understand Jorn''s problem with the Nando Times, since with a bit of fiddling i got: http://www.nando.net/nt/world/ and it looks great.

No fair! You are now including nando.net which I already read on a regular basis. I want you to find things I don''t read. *grin*
Contributed by Stu Anderson (stuander@halcyon.com) on July 3, 1998.
I agree with Raphael.. I thought the bylines were headers. :)

I don''t think a collaborative weblog (guest email, etc) is a good idea. The charm of the weblog is commentary. I read to see what Jorn, or Raphael, or Dave, or the folks at Wired are up to, and click whatever appeals to me.

On the other hand, it might work if you had a few regular contributors, and we got a sense of their personalities. Slashdot may have the right idea, with the trusted contributors.

I''ve been playing with weblog-idea log integration at manifest station, with mixed results..

I came to the weblog via Need To Know (www.ntk.net) which I'd rec. to anyone in the UK. I have a look at the weblog every time I'm in college and follow up links to about 30% of the items. It's definitely in my top ten list of sites, and if I know anyone else who's into the things Jorn is I'd reccomend it to them. Except I don't know anyone...

(I should've put `Tom Tomorrow' as the author's name here.) Erm, LESS LEWINSKY. Please, please. It's so ubiquitous that it seems redundant no matter how outri the story... It's not that I don't have an interest in matters prurient -- that I could see more of, but just so long as it's not Lewinsky.

Well, I've been visiting Jorn's site for many a month now and was surprised to see so few comments when I finally found this, er, part of it. I have really enjoyed most of the links I was interested in and have bookmarked many of them. Jorn: I found this by reading the Voice (abunn's column I believe) There really is nothing quite like it on the Net that _I_ have found..... C. J. a great time to quit smoking now....cough...

This, and the Deja newsgroup, might be more active if the site maintainer participated more actively? A `dry' page or ng doesn't really invite comments, but even sporadic encouragements from the owner might get the discussion going a bit.

My questions for today's network (and government) mournographers:

Who did you expect those boys to admire? What role models did your channel offer them, with greater integrity than (eg) Marilyn Manson? What future did you paint for them?

the nicest things for you to put in your log in a long time. lately you seem like a spiteful hate filled person and i wondered about you really but this was nice touch.
