EMAIL WARS 64

ManBeast v Anders & Janne (NeoRAGEx)

Interview conducted June 21st 1999

NeoRageX is really an amazing release. What happened between the last release of NeoRage and the release of 'X' where it seemed like the two of you dissapeared?

We both got tired on the whole emu scene for awhile. We spend some time playing games instead of emulating.

What do you have planned for NeoRageX?

Perfect emulation of all NeoGeo games. Some new features that does not exist in any emulator today.

The Rage team is known for working closely with ROM dumpers. What do you feel about Romlist closing down and now NAZ and Apollo69 quitting?

We felt very sorry for Aracorn when he had to quit romdumping. He is the only romdumper we have been really close to. Ofcourse it's not fun when anyone working with emulation quits or when emu-sites are closing down.

How do you feel about newer ROM releases like Metal Slug X and the couple others which are only a few months old?

We think those releases are hurting the emulation scene, that was the main reason we did quit the last time

What opinions do you have of the NeoGeo emulation scene past and present?

For us the emulation part was more exciting in the beginning. Regarding roms it was better in the beginning too, now everything seems to be out of control, and more people are just trying to profit on other peoples work.

What opinions do you have on the emulation scene especially with the arrival of newer console emulators like UltraHLE and bleem!?

UltraHLE was an impressive surprise which did set a new landmark in 3d emulation. It's hard to say something good about Bleem!, they said it was perfect back in october 98 but it's not perfect even now. Throwing shit on almost every other emulator claiming being superior to all other dont make our judgement better either. Otherwise we think that emulators has become more professional.

Do you sympathize with the new PSEmu author and the way the beta leak was spread? Similar to the hacked version of NeoRage.

Yes we do, but we think not to release their emu is the right solution. Better to show other commercial PSX-emu's that freeware can be just as good or even better.

What happened with RAGE? Things have been very quiet on that front for you guys.

We only have 24-hours per day ;).

There seems to be a growing cry from certain emulation fans for the source code releases of many emulators, have you ever thought about distributing your code openly?

There is enough source code out already, if someone wants to make a NeoGeo emulator they don't need our source to do it.

Any last thoughts or comments?

We hope the rom dumpers calm down, and wait with releasing the brand new games.
