    Introduction:

    PGA-DX4/2A is designed to upgrade a 486 DX2, DX, SX2 or SX system to run AMD 5X86 100-133MHz, Cyrix 100MHz, Intel 75-100MHz CPU.

    Install Your PGA-DX4/2A as follows:

    1. Before installation, please check your system manual for Instruction on upgrading your system.
    2. Use Table 1 to set the jumper JP1 on the PGA-DX4/2A before plugging in the new processor, in Table 1, "3-4" means to put jumper on pin #3 and pin #4.

      Notes:

      1. Table 2 is to show you the jumper setting and CPU internal clock speed.
        In Table 2, "x3" means: new CPU's internal clock cpeed is running 3 times the system clock.
      2. If your existing system is running at 25MHz or lower, you should consider changing your system clock on the motherboard in order to run the new processor at full speed.

    3. As shown on the assembly diagram, thoroughly plug the adapter into the ZIG/PGA socket with correct pin#1 orientation.
    4. Follow same pin# orientation and plug in the new processor.

    Install Your MULTIMEDIA CPU UPGRADE KIT as follows:

    1. If there is alreade a Pentium or 6X86 CPU in the ZIF socket 5 or 7, remove it by pulling the ZIF socket level out to the side and then raising it. Then lift out the CPU.
      Caution: Static electricity can cause serious damage to integrated circuit chips. Avoid building up a static electricity charge in your body by touching a grounded object before you touch the chips and at frequent in tervals as you handle the chips.

    2. Carefully position new media enhancement technology CPU(Intel P55C, AMD-K6TM, Cyrix M2), align the pin 1 corners of the CPU and the adapter. Press firmly on the top of the chip for connection with the adapter.

    3. Make sure new media enhancement technology CPU (Intel P55C, AMD-K6TM, Cyrix M2) speed and brand before setting jumpers on motherboard and upgrade kit.

      Notes:

      1. To run AMD-K6 233MHz, we strongly recommend you use switching type upgrade kit.
      2. Pin1-2 or Pin2-3 is closed (sometimes referred to as "shorted") with the plastic cap inserted over two pins of the jumper. X is open with the plastic cap inserted over one of no pin(s) of the jumper.

    4. Carefully position upgrade kit and align the pin 1 corners of the CPU and the ZIF socket. Place the Upgrade Kit in the ZIFF socket 5 or 7.

    5. Connect upgrade kit's power cable to system power supply and make sure the red wire in the correct position.

    6. Most older motherboard BIOS' will not display the new CPU speed properly. This is because the BIOS' were written before these new generations of CPUs were introduced. The BIOS speed indication has no effect on the actual operation speed of the CPU. Simply run any CPU performance bench marking software program to verify that your CPU is functioning at it's correct operating speed. Or Unicore Software/Mr. BIOS has an upgrade whether your existing BIOS is from Award Software, American Megatrends or Phoenix Technologies.
