System Maintenance Schedule

To keep the IGC Networks running well, it's necessary to shut the system down for short periods of time, at most twice a week. We hope that by informing members ahead of time, they can schedule their work accordingly and these periods will not pose an inconvenience.

The weekly scheduled downtime maintenance periods are:

Sundays 6pm - 9pm (Pacific Time)
Wednesdays 9pm - 11pm (Pacific Time)

Here are a few clarifications regarding the system maintenance schedule:

  • It will not be necessary to take the system down for each scheduled maintenance time.

  • When the system is taken down for scheduled maintenance, the downtime may not last for the entire scheduled period.

  • The maintenance schedule was chosen after we analyzed usage. The times chosen for maintenance are the times of least system usage.

  • Unexpected problems may arise which will cause the system to be down at times other than the scheduled hours. Generally such periods will last for no more than an hour and a half, usually less than ten minutes.

  • We will post a reminder message about upcoming system maintenance, usually the day before the scheduled maintainence. Each reminder message will only be shown to you once during the login process, so please note the upcoming maintenance time carefully.

  • During the hour preceding the actual downtime, warning messages will appear on your screen if you are online via our 'Text-Only-Interface.' This will enable you to log off before the system shuts down.
NOTE: these warning messages currently won't be seen
when using IGC InterACT programs.

Here is what you can expect prior to each scheduled system maintenance:

  • Warning messages will begin up to an hour before the scheduled maintenance, continuing right up to the time that the system goes down.

  • Logins will not be allowed 5 minutes before shutdown. You can remain logged on right up until shutdown, but at shutdown you will be automatically logged out.

  • It is advisable to logout by hand instead of waiting for the automatic logout.
For those who are still online when the automatic logout occurs:

  • If you are in Mail? or Conf?, the messages you have read during your current session will reappear the next time you use the (u)nread command.

  • If you are in Mail?, the messages which you had marked as (d)eleted will still be there when you next login.

  • If you are in Mail? or Conf? and (w)riting a message, your partially composed message will be available to you the next time you log in and choose to compose a message.
