Newsletter No. 2 From Our Lady's RC Primary School
October 1998

CAFOD Collection...
Please help us to support the major Catholic relief agency in England with our non-uniform day on Friday 23rd October. All children are asked make a donation of 50p (or more) and to do without their usual morning snack on the day in return for the chance to leave their uniform at home.

Class Liturgies...
All classes will be holding short services in school this term to which all parents are invited, so please look out for further details and come along if you can.

Parents' Evening...
Please find attached a slip with details of Parents' Evening in November and return it to school as soon as possible so that appointments can be arranged. We will also presenting information on the new Literacy Hour, including a video, and staff will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding reading and writing within school.

Inspector's Visit...
All parents should by now have received a letter from our Chair of Governors, Fr. Whelan, with details of the latest inspector's report. If not, please ask for a copy. Also, if you have any questions about the inspector's findings please do get in touch. Further details will be given in the Governors' Annual Report for Parents in November.

School Premises...
We are pleased to report that a number of improvements will be made within the school during the coming break, including partial re-decoration, lighting improvements and joinery work. This represents the continuation of a programme of planned improvements for both the interior and exterior of the school.

School Association ...
The 'Fashion Show' has been arranged for Tuesday 10th November so please look out for further details and come along for a really enjoyable evening.

'100' Club News.....
The first draw took place on Friday 5 October. Due to the limited response so far two prizes of 25 and 10 were drawn. If any parent, friends or family members would like to take part we are still taking names for this year. Either send in your 10 in an envelope marked '100 Club' to the school office or see either Mrs. Blackmore or Mrs. Kimber in school. Payments can be made termly at 3 now, 3 in January and 4 at Easter. Any money raised through the '110 Club' will go towards new playground markings. Remember, if we increase the membership we can increase the prizes and all of the children in school will benefit.

Meals in School...
Would parents wishing to make a change for their children from meals to sandwiches or vice versa please let us know in writing so that notice can be given to the kitchen staff. Meals cost 1 each, 5 in a normal week.

Medicines In School...
If possible parents should come in to school to administer medicines when necessary. Alternatively, staff in school will supervise the administration of medicines by children only when full written details giving dosage, frequency, time and any other relevant information are provided.

Punctuality...
Although most children are arriving at school in good time, unfortunately a number are still regularly late, causing distress and disruption at the start of each day. It is clearly very important that each day gets off to a good start and we do expect all children to be here on time, that is by 8.55am, every day. Children arriving after 9.15am are marked as an 'unauthorised absence' for which statistics are collected and reported annually. If parents are having particular problems please contact the school as soon as possible.

Community News...
Year 3 Parents' Sacramental Meeting...
Parents of Year 3 children are invited to join us in school on THURSDAY 22 OCTOBER at 3.30pm for a short meeting regarding the coming programme.

Parish 200 Celebrations...
Did you know that our parish will soon be celebrating 200 years of service to Catholic families in this area? A group of parishioners are now planning a series of events and we will be playing our part too. If you have any suggestions for activities or can make any kind of contribution please get in touch.

Stockport County...
The Community Programme offered by Stockport County Football Club is widely recognised as being among the best in the country and we are delighted that once again our children will benefit from coaching sessions with staff from the club in school after the half-term break. There will also be another Penalty Shoot Out in November which we hope everybody will want to support.

And Finally...
Remember that we are always very happy to discuss any difficulties that your child(ren) may be experiencing or any school-related issues that you would like to raise with us. Just get in touch and we will do our best to help.

Thanks to everyone who supported our CAFOD Collection. A cheque for 132.03 has been sent to CAFOD following our non-uniform day today!

Many thanks to Stockport Art Gallery staff for the invitation to bring our Junior children to meet Adrian Henri, the famous artist and poet, on Wednesday 21 October. Adrian was terrific, telling us the stories behind many of the pictures currently on exhibition at the Gallery and reading from his poetry collections. We can really recommend a visit to see his work. Many thanks to Adrian for a great day with you in Stockport!
