The Flintstones are the Modern Stone-Age Family that truly needs no introduction. Arguably, they remain the most widely recognized cartoon characters ever created for television. The show is the cornerstone (no pun intended) of both Hanna-Barbera Studios and of any serious discussion concerning animation in the television age.

The original Flintstones series ran from 1960 to 1966 during which 166 half-hour episodes were produced. Spin-offs from the show include other cartoon series, feature films, books, records, toys and more.

Originally The Flintstones were to be known as The Flagstones. Here Joe Barbera explains why the name was changed.
