This design was made w/ perle cotton #8. Optional size thread.

Begin with two shuttles and one color. First ring starts at arrow.
Moving up and clockwise. (Picots not shown)
R. 5 - 5 - (very small picot) 5 - 5, cl.

SR. 5 - 5 / 5 - 5, cl. (4X, total of 5 rings).

*Inside corner: SR. 5 / 5 - 5 - 5, cl.

SR. 5 - 5 / 5 - 5, cl.

Outside corner: SR. 5 - 5 - 5 / 5, cl. (2X) Small mock picot btwn these two SR.

SR. 5 - 5 / 5 + 5, cl.* (Repeat * - * 2X, joining inside picots. End w/ inside corner.)

SR. 5 - 5 / 5 + 5, cl. (5X, total of 5 rings).
Outside corner: SR. 5 - 5 - 5 / 5, cl. (2X) Small mock picot btwn these two SR. Join to the very small picot of first ring. End desired method.

Make six:  two colors or as desired.

R. 24, cl.  Ch. 7, (4X).  End.

Insert the small ring and chain motif into the cross rings as shown.
Outer Chain: Begin at lower left picot of cross ring.

Ch. 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + to side picot of same ring. Pick up the picot through the ring of the small insterted motif.  The join locks it in place.

Ch. 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + picot of next ring through inserted motif.

*Ch. 4 + picot of next ring through inserted motif.

Ch. 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + picot of next ring through inserted motif.* (2X)

Inside corner: Ch. 2 + 4 + 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + 4 + 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + 2.  (2X more)

Ch. 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + 4 + (repeat 1X more)

Ch. 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 + 4 end.

Center Motif: R. 5 - (whisper of a picot) 5 - 5 - 5, cl.

Ch. 15, insert through inside corner ring of cross + to whisper of picot of ring just made, 15 insert through next ring, join as before, repeat once more, 15, end at beginning ring.

Notes: For some of these parts, needle tatting was a quick and easy way to go round the edge and weave the inner center motif.
