Mr Rain has spent over 45 years in professional theatre, including 32 seasons (over 100 roles) at the Stratford Festival, most recently as Sir Thomas More in A Man For All Seasons. Other recent Stratford productions include Our Town, Alice Through the Looking Glass, The Merchant of Venice, and Oedipus Rex. He has performed in most major theatre companies in Canada, as well as in Edinburgh, London, Chichester, New York, Chicago and Washington D.C.

Mr. Rain studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Old Vic Theatre School. He was head of the English section of the National Theatre School from 1974 to 1977.
