Veteran stage performer and audience favorite Douglas Rain returns to The Shaw after an eleven
year absence. He last appeared in Shaw's Getting Married in 1989. This season Mr. Rain
will reprise his role as Captain Shotover in the flagship production of Bernard Shaw's
Heartbreak House. Other Shaw credits include The Voysey Inheritance (1988),
You Never Can Tell (1988), Augustus Does His Bit (1987), Major
Barbara (1987), Heartbreak House (1985), The Simpleton of The Unexpected
Isles (1983), and Caesar and Cleopatra (1983).
Mr Rain has spent over 45 years in professional theatre, including 32 seasons (over 100 roles) at the Stratford Festival, most recently as Sir Thomas More in A Man For All Seasons. Other recent Stratford productions include Our Town, Alice Through the Looking Glass, The Merchant of Venice, and Oedipus Rex. He has performed in most major theatre companies in Canada, as well as in Edinburgh, London, Chichester, New York, Chicago and Washington D.C. Mr. Rain studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Old Vic Theatre School. He was head of the English section of the National Theatre School from 1974 to 1977. |
