ARTLAND '97!that fabulous week of creative play hosted by those ever-crazy, ever-creative faeries of IDA!

We invite you to kick back, relax and plunge into the creative frenzy of our Fourth Annual ARTLAND extravaganza.

IDA's 243 acre playground turns into your fun art land for the week of SEPTEMBER 15-21 when queer men, wimin and friends gather on our faerie farm. Artland is a unique festival of artists and lovers of arts.

LUXURIOUS LODGING Pitch a tent by our new flower mandala and wake up to the sight of bursting colors and the sound of the creek rushing past.

AESTHETIC EXPLORATION Every ARTLAND is unique and we never know what triumphs of art will result. Last year, focused events included a gallery opening, a week-long creation of a play and performance, a cave rave party, unvielling of an ARTLAND-created pottery-pole, a watercolor workshop, a stilt-walking ballet, drumming to the beat of a thunder storm, and much more.

FOREST FANTASIES Secluded in the woods, our imaginations run wild. Dip in the creek, go pear picking, hike to the waterfall, harvest bamboo and build a sex-lair pyramid, run through a field of flowers in your most elegant frock, lie in the sun naked to catch the fading rays of summer.

ORGANIC DELICACIES Pesto runs thick as we celebrate the abundance of harvest time with fresh basil and garlic. Dig up sweet potatos, pick a colorful salad, then cap the meal with some chocolate decadence (sorry, we don't grow that here!)

All of the ARTLAND activities are a celebration of community - people coming together to create art, explore nature, make new friends, and share our vision of a queer world of personal empowerment, non-hierarchy and cooperative madness. Everyone lends their sensibilities and help to make ARTLAND what it is.

Here's the scoop on ARTLAND you will want to know:

IDA! (for those curious to know: Idyll Dandy Arts)

Is a queer artists' community in Tennessee.

Is a bunch of faeries living together in a homo hollow (nearly 250 acres of forests, waterfalls, and gardens)

smack dab in the middle of the not-so-shiny bible belt buckle.

Some cool things the 9 - 10 of us do:

We garden organically in tastefule sundresses and hats

and can almost taste the faerie wackiness of our outfits in every organic bite we take.

We publish our queer arts newsletter called

"IDA DISHPATCH" every once in a while.

People wait and wait eagerly for it, they say!

We encourage fey artists to come here.

ARTLAND, our annual Fall creative bash

has brought countless folks to IDA since 1995.

Many come to look for new expressions, new directions,

and a very different day-to-day experience.

It's a week or more of trying things you've never done but

always wanted to "as a creative person, girl!"

We sing and have our hair done. Some call it a jug band!

We are the home of the inimitable

    "EGGPLANT FAERIE PLAYERS"!

They have been seen rehearsing in our croquet field complete with pond, pottery pole, tree house outhouse and a pink bathtub full of flowers.
