Nazr Mohammed 1997-98

* Played in 39 games, starting the last 27 contests. * Shot 59.7 percent from the field to lead the team, the fourth-highest single-season total in school history. Has shot 55.3 percent from the field for his career, the seventh best mark at UK. * Scored 17 of his 18 points in the second half against Stanford after playing only four minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. Against Utah, he scored eight of his 10 points in the first half before foul trouble limited him to 13 minutes for the game. * Recorded a career-high six blocked shots against UCLA in the South Region semifinals. * Finished second on the team in scoring (12.0 ppg), first in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and first in blocks with 75. His 75 blocks were the fifth most ever recorded by a Wildcat in a single season. He now has 135 career blocks, fifth on the all-time list. * Had a team-high 18 points vs. S.C. State, thanks to 8-of-8 shooting from the foul line, while matching his career-high four assists. * Named first-team All-SEC by the coaches and media, first-team District 7 (Ky. and Tenn.) by the NABC and first-team District 4 (Ky., Tenn., Miss., Ala., Ga. and Fla.) by the USBWA. * Earned SEC All-Tournament team recognition after tallying 33 points, 24 rebounds and five blocked shots in three games while playing less than 20 minutes per game. * Suffered a slight right shoulder separation against South Carolina in the SEC Tourney championship game. * Went scoreless for the first time all season at South Carolina (2/28), but still tallied seven rebounds, and a career-high four assists and three blocks in 27 minutes. * Led the SEC in field-goal percentage for most of the season until his field goals per game fell below the minimum of 5.0 mpg. * Recorded nine double-doubles this season to lead the team. Recorded his most recent double-double of the season against Arkansas, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the SEC Tourney semifinals. It also was his sixth of the season against SEC opponents. His double-doubles this season include:

SMITH ON MOHAMMED

"Nazr has really come around. I've been impressed with him all preseason. He has to continue to work on his post defense and his footwork. If he can start the year the way he finished it, we'll have a pretty solid ballclub."
