To the Honourable Paul Martin, Minister of Finance:

Taxes in this country are too high and still climbing! They are killing jobs, eroding family incomes and making saving for the future impossible. They are stripping the poorest Canadians of opportunity and sending our best and brightest to live and work outside the country. The time has come to chart a new course.

We the undersigned urge you to:

re-index the income tax system to inflation (to eliminate bracket creep)
eliminate the 5% federal surtax, and
cut income taxes across-the-board by 10% which results in each of your federal tax brackets currently at 17%, 26% and 29% being reduced by two percentage points to 15%, 24% and 27%.

Lower taxes will stimulate growth, unearth the underground economy, create more jobs and ultimately generate more revenue for your government to dedicate to debt reduction and program priorities. Such an approach would represent a real agenda for today’s – and tomorrow’s – children.
