The Department of Communications serves the media relations needs of the staff departments of the NCCB/USCC. The department director is the chief spokesperson for the body of bishops in the United States. This page is a continuation of our mission to serve the offices through the media and is designed primarily for reporters and members of the working media. Encuentro 2000 Meeting in Los Angeles to Stress Jubilee Themes of Reconciliation and Reaching out to the Weak

Encuentro 2000, the Catholic Church's national jubilee year meeting in the United States, will stress the themes of reconciliation and reaching out to the weak. Slated for July 6-9, 2000 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the national meeting, will show the 'many faces in God's house' and demonstrate the unity of the Body of Christ within the diversity of the Church.

First proposed by the Bishops' Committee for Hispanic Affairs, Encuentro 2000 will bring together people from various cultures, ethnic communities, and diverse apostolates, all of whom give shape to the Catholic Church in the United States.

Jubilee Resource for Young People Available from U.S. Bishops

A jubilee year guide directed toward youth is now available. The new resource, The Youth and Young Adult Jubilee Guidebook - A Resource for Preparing and Celebrating Jubilee Year 2000, includes an overview of the Jubilee year, six group sessions for youth (junior high and high school students), and six group sessions for young adults (those in late teens, twenties and thirties, including college students).

Developed by the USCC Secretariat on Family, Laity, Women and Youth, the Guidebook contains resources such as the Pope's Jubilee Prayer, the Jubilee Hymn, and a list of celebrations for young people visiting Rome this jubilee year.
