Walter Alexander Willis (1919-1999)

Irish science fiction fan and legendary fan writer, Walt Willis, died of a heart attack on October 20, 1999. His health had been poor since a heart attack in August of 1998.

Willis was publisher of the fanzines Slant (with James White) and Hyphen (with Chuck Harris). The 1952 recipient of the Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund (TAFF), Willis received a Hugo Award in 1958 for "Most outstanding actifan," and was Fan Guest of Honor at Magicon, the 1992 World Science Fiction Convention.

Along with Bob Shaw, he wrote The Enchanted Duplicator a classic of "fan fiction."
