The Gay Media - Problem or Solution?
( Subscribe | Discussion summary )

Chris D. - 03:11 pm PST - Sep 8, 1999
in the sling when the word got out

The Gay media is often criticized for being shallow, superficial and not attentive to the needs of its readers. From local bar rags to national magazines, many believe the preoccupation with sex, celebrity, and gossip, over matters of politics and education is a disservice. What do you think?

What gay media do you read? How do you think those publications could be improved? What issues should be covered and are ignored? What do you wish would be eliminated?

Also, how do you feel the mainstream media handles gay issues? What publications do you think shine in this regard? Which ones fail miserably?

Links, as always, are encouraged.

"Untie the queen!"

I have the same objections to store signs like Krazy Kidzwair

Why am I flashing back to the seventies on the Washington State coastline, where there was a placed called "Kustom Klam Kleaners"? Somehow, a place that intentionally misspelled everything so that their initials were "KKK" just didn't impress me as a place that I would want to go to...

And then there's Kenneth Anger's classic, "Kustom Kar Kommandos"

She should "come to an agreement" with every gay man in North America who she's been demonizing for so long.

''Let's face it - the REAL advantage of being White in America is the knowledge that Al Sharpton won't leave you one of his jumpsuits in his Last Will and Testament.'' -- Jor-El

So it's official. The Advocate is buying Out Magazine. Does that mean the two publications could get more insipid? One hopes not.

Not surprising I suppose. There are too many gay rags that are identical.

They will merge into The AdvocOUT, featuring covers with even cuter straight white male twenty-somethings who are, like, gosh, really proud to have gay fans.
