About the Allan Savory Center for Holistic ManagementThe Allan Savory Center for Holistic Management was established in 1984 as an international nonprofit corporation to advance the practice of Holistic Management and coordinate its continued development worldwide. Today the Savory Center serves as the hub of an information-exchange network that includes an association of educators certified to provide training in Holistic Management, individual practitioners, groups of practitioners who associate as management clubs/learning groups, or more formally as state, regional, or national affiliates, and a sister organization, founded in 1992, the Africa Centre for Holistic Management, located near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The Savory Center itself is a small, lean organization and our growth is strategic and carefully planned. We expand our efforts not so much by increasing staff size, but by developing our network that is, training individual Certified Educators to work independently within their own communities and networks, by collaborating with other organizations, and through business partnerships that are mutually beneficial. Information Exchange To facilitate the flow of information, the Center publishes a bimonthly journal, Holistic Management IN PRACTICE, that regularly updates the ideas presented in our text, Holistic Management: A New Framework for Decision Making, by Allan Savory with Jody Butterfield (Island Press, 1999), and provides a forum in which readers can share new insights, or case studies of particular challenges they've overcome. The Center hosts several conferences on the internet as well that enable those with pressing questions to receive a variety of timely responses. Certified Educator Training Program Each year we run training programs for up to 20 individuals who, on completion of the two-year, self-directed program, are certified to provide Holistic Management training and followup support to people in their own communities or within the institutions they represent. Certified Educator Training Programs currently run in the United States, Zimbabwe, and, in the near future, in Australia and Mexico (in Spanish). Research Projects In support of the efforts of our Certified Educators, the Savory Center has engaged in a number of research projects that explore ways to introduce Holistic Management in a variety of forums, most recently within rural communities in the United States, and in villages in developing nations that subsist entirely or largely on agriculture. Educational Materials The Savory Center produces a variety of products books, videos, planning guides and forms, Holistic ManagementTM Financial Planning software, and more to assist holistic managers in their practice or in enlisting the support of others. Because we are constantly learning more, as more and more people become involved, we continually update these items. The most recent version of any product is always listed on this site. Services The Savory Center provides workshops for those seeking an introduction to Holistic Management, but we rely on Certified Educators to provide most of the in-depth training that many find beneficial. Savory Center staff also provide on-site facilitation/coaching and process consulting to a variety of businesses, organizations and government institutions. We also put clients in touch with Certified Educators who perform these same services. Through our for-profit subsidiary,Holistic Management International, we engage in commercial activity that enables us to introduce Holistic Management to new audiences while deriving revenue to help support our nonprofit efforts. |
