Unprecedented in the state of California, the Riverside County District Attorney has arrested and charged Dr. Bruce Steir with murder for the death of a woman who underwent a second-trimester abortion and died several hours later from complications of a perforated uterus.
Pledge of Support
Because doctors should not be charged with murder for the death of a patient from established potential/medically accepted complications;
Because the California Medical Board has engaged in a concerted, well documented campaign to harass, place on probation, suspend/revoke the licenses of providers of late term abortion;
Because Dr. Steir has a twenty-five year history of providing reproductive health care for women all over California with a low complication rate overall;
Because the case against Dr. Steir is clearly engineered by anti-abortion forces to further intimidate providers of late-term abortions and the women who need their services;
Because this murder charge is key in the anti-choice strategy to eliminate access to abortion by targeting the physicians who perform these services.
I support Dr. Bruce Steir, and demand that all criminal charges be dropped.
