Gunners sign Lauren

Midfielder, Lauren (23) has today joined Arsenal FC from Spanish Primera Liga side Real Mallorca for an undisclosed fee.

Voted 'Player of the Tournament' after winning the 2000 African Nations' Cup with Cameroon, Lauren has spent the past two seasons playing for Real Mallorca, making 85 appearances and scoring five goals.

Manager Arsène Wenger confirmed: "We have signed Lauren in a bid to strengthen our squad for the forthcoming campaign. He is a versatile player, comfortable in both defence and midfield. Lauren possesses strong, physical power as well as great stamina. He is a welcome addition to the squad."

Lauren enthused: "Arsenal is a great Club and I am relishing the prospect of playing alongside so many world class players. I am also looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premiership and the Champions League."

Although Lauren is a Cameroon international, he has lived in Spain since the age of three and therefore holds a Spanish passport.

Lauren will meet up with his new team mates for pre-season training in July.
