CROCHETED HAT AND HATBAND:
Hat will fit all sizes.

Coats & Clark's O.N.T. "Speed-Cro-Sheen" Mercerized Cotton (100-yard balls):
For Hat: 2 balls #61-D Nu-Ecru
For Hatband: 1 ball of desired color.
For All Flowers: J & P Coats "Knit-Cro-Sheen" - approximately 25 yards each of:

Steel Crochet Hook, No. 0 (zero) and No. 7 OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL OBTAIN THE STITCH GAUGE BELOW.
GAUGE: No. 0 hook; 5 sps = 2"; 7 rnds = 3".
___HAT: Starting at center top with No. 0 hook and A, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring.
___Rnd 1: Ch 4, into ring make (dc and ch 1) 11 times. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4-12 sps.
___Rnd 2: Ch 4, dc in same ch as joining, * ch 1, holding back on hook last loop of each dc, make 3 dc in next dc, yarn over hook, draw through all 4 loops on hook-3-dc cluster made; ch 1, in next dc make dc, ch 1 and dc; rpt from * around, ending with ch 1, cluster in last dc, ch 1. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-4.
___Rnd 3: Ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 1, * in next cluster make dc, ch 1 and dc; ch 1, make dc and ch 1 in each of next 2 dc; rpt from * around, ending with ch 1, in next cluster make dc, ch 1 and dc, ch 1. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-4-24 ch-1 sps.

___Rnd 8: Ch 3, holding back on hook last loop of each dc, make 2 dc in same ch as joining, yarn over hook, draw through all 3 loops on hook, ch 1, 3-dc cluster in next dc, ch 1, * make dc and ch 1 in each of next 2 dc, 3-dc cluster and ch 1 in each of next 2 dc; rpt from * around, ending with dc and ch 1 in each of last 2 dc. Join to top of first cluster.
___Rnd 9: Ch 4, dc in next cluster, * ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, dc in next St; rpt from * around, ending with ch 1. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4-48 sps.
___Rnd 10: Ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 1, * make 3-dc cluster and ch 1 in each of next 2 dc, dc and ch 1 in each of next 2 dc; repeat from * around, ending with 3-dc cluster and ch 1 in each of last 2 dc. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4.
___Rnd 11: Repeat Rnd 5.
___Rnds 12 through 16: Repeat Rnds 8 through 11 once, then rpt Rnd 8 once more.
___BRIM: Rnd 1: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next (ch-1) sp, dc in top of next st; rpt from * around, ending with 2 dc in last sp. Join with sl st to top of ch-3-144 dc, counting ch-3 as 1 dc.
___Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join to top of ch-3.
___Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * ch 4, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc; rpt from * around, ending ch 4, sk last 2 dc. Join with sl st to first sc.
___Rnd 4: Sl st in next ch-4 loop, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch loop, make 3 dc in each ch-4 loop around. Join to top of ch-3.
___Rnd 5: Repeat Rnd 2 of Brim.
___Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same ch as joining, * ch 5 sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc; rpt from * around, ending with ch 5, sk last 2 dc. Join with sl st to first sc. Cut yarn and fasten.
FLOWERS:
___FIVE PETAL FLOWER: Starting at center with No. 7 hook and B, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.
___Rnd 1: 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc. Break off and fasten.
___Rnd 2: Attach I to any sc, make sc in same st, * ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc; rpt from * 3 more times; ch 3, sk last sc. Join with sl st to first sc-5 loops.
___Rnd 3: In each ch-3 loop around make sc, ch 3, 4 dc, ch 3 and sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Break off and fasten. Using 2 different colors for each flower (in any desired combination), make 3 more Five Petal Flowers in the same manner.
___DOUBLE FIVE PETAL FLOWER: Using any 2 colors, follow directions for the 3 rounds of Five Petal Flower.
___Rnd 4: With another color, attach thread to back loops of any sc on Rnd 2, sc in in same manner.
___LARGE FIVE PETAL FLOWER WITH RAISED CENTER: Starting at center with No. 7 hook and D (or any color), ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.
___Rnd 1: 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc.
___Rnd 2: Ch 1, working in front loop only of each sc, make sc in same st as joining, (2 sc in next sc, sc in each of 3 sc) 2 times; 2 sc in last sc. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten.
___Rnd 3: Working in back loop of sc's on Rnd 1, attach E to first sc on Rnd 1, sc in same sc, * ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc; rpt from * around, ending with ch 3. Join with sl st to first sc.
___Rnd 4: In each ch-3 loop around make sc, ch 4, 4 tr, ch 4 and sc. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten.
___TEN PETAL FLOWER: Starting at center with No. 7 hook and G (or any color), ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring.
___Rnd 1: 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc.
___Rnd 2: Working over sc's of last rnd, make 10 more sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc of this rnd. Break off and fasten.
___Rnd 3: Attach B to any sc on last rnd, draw up a loop in same sc, yarn over hook, draw up another loop in same sc, yarn over hook, draw through all 4 loops on hook, * ch 2, draw up a loop in next sc, yarn over, draw up another loop in same sc, yarn over, draw through all 4 loops on hook; rpt from * around; ch 2. Join with sl st to first st. Break off and fasten.
___Rnd 4: Attach F to same st as joining, * sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, holding back on hook last loop of each dc, make 3 dc in same ch-2 sp, yarn over hook, draw through all 4 loops on hook-cluster made; ch 3, sc in same sp; rpt from * around. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten.
___LEAF: With I, ch 4.
___Row 1: 4 dc in 4th ch from hook. Ch 3, turn.
___Rows 2, 3 and 4: Sk first dc, dc in next 4 sts. Ch 3, turn.
___Row 5: Sk first dc, cluster over next 3 dc. Break off and fasten.
___FINISHING: Arrange and pin flowers into a bunch, mixing flowers as desired (or as shown on photo) to one side at base of crown. With matching colors, from wrong side, sew centers of flowers securely in place.
___HATBAND: With Speed-Cro-Sheen and No. 0 hook make a chain 1" longer than desired length, but having a number of sts divisible by 4, plus 3.
___Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across. Ch 3, turn.
___Row 2: Sk first 2 dc, holding back on hook last loop of each dc make 3 dc in next dc, yarn over hook, draw through all 4 loops on hook-cluster made; * ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, cluster in next dc; rpt from * across, ending with ch 1, sk next dc, dc in top of chain at end of row. Ch 3, turn.
___Row 3: * Dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next st; rpt from * across, working last dc in top of ch-3. Break off and fasten.
___FLOWERS: Making flowers same as for Hat, but using different arrangements of colors, make 6 Five Petal Flowers and 1 Ten Petal Flower.
___LARGE TEN PETAL FLOWER: With different colors work same as Ten Petal Flower until Rnd 3 has been completed.
___Rnd 4: Work same as Rnd 4 of Ten Petal Flower but making in each ch-2 sp around sc, ch 3, 2 clusters, ch 3 and sc.
___Center: Cut 6 strands of a dark color, each about 2-1/2" long. Insert ends of all 6 strands from front to back into starting ring; with sewing thread sew these ends on wrong side of flower. On right side cut strands 1/2" long; tie small knot at each end.
___FINISHING: Arrange flowers unevenly across center of band. From wrong side sew centers securely in place. Attach to hat as shown.
