The Gypsy Vest Accessory Book III by Jack Frost (the yarn people), Volume 77, 1970

SIZE:  Small, Medium and Large

MATERIALS:  3--4 oz. pull skeins Jack Frost Wintuk Bulky yarn; "K" crochet hook

(no gauge or measurement sizes given)

CHAIN:  112 (small)  124 (medium)  or  136 (large)
Row 1: 
1 dc in the 7th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, 1 dc in the next ch, repeat from * across (36, 40 or 44 blocks).

Row 2:  Ch 5, turn, 1 dc I n dc of row below, * ch 2, 1 dc in the next dc, repeat from * to end of row, ending in ch 2, 1 dc in 3rd ch.

Work even in pattern for 22 rows.

FRONT:  Row 1:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in dc, work even in pattern across 6, 7, 8 more blocks.
Row 2:  Ch 5, turn, 1 dc in dc, work even in pattern across 5, 6, 7 more blocks (one block has been decreased)

Keeping ARMHOLE edge even, continue to decrease 1 block every other row until 4, 5, 5 blocks remain.

Work even until armhole is 10, 11, 12 rows long.  End off.

OTHER FRONT:  Attach yarn to other side at 3rd ch.  Start with row 1 of front and work to correspond.

BACK:  Leave out 4 spaces for each armhole, and work across center 14, 16, 18 blocks until same length as fronts.  End off.

FINISHING:  Sew shoulder seams.  Attach yarn on lower edge and work a border of 1 sc, ch 2, 1 dc, in the first block, * in the next block, 1 sc, ch 2, 1 dc, repeat from * across bottom of vest.  Keeping work flat, continue working border around fronts, skipping about every 3rd block.

With a double strand of yarn, make a chain and run it through the spaces 2 rows below the armhole.
