Clearly, there is much need for restructuring in our current system. Things have become too spread out, too complicated, and covered in far too much red tape. Focusing on the basics is always a good idea. Without focus, there is nothing to be done. It is my personal belief that the government must be there to do more than just police its citizens, however, and protect them from outside force. There are many aspects of life in this country that make our lives special and our experiences extraordinary because of our government's extra level of involvement. Scientific advancements, art, education, communications... there are arguements that these could have progressed under private industry, but the fact is private industry HAS been working in tandem with the government all along yet it is the government that often is the impetus for getting these things to the public. It offers quality control, it prevents the best changes because of beaurocracy... one hand up and one hand down. Change must occur, balance must be found, there is no arguement about that.
