File Description [top]

Applied Social Sciences Index and AbstractsTM (ASSIA) provides a comprehensive reference database on modern society and its problems. Aspects of law, business, national politics, and in particular, local government are included. The database provides strong emphasis on the applied aspects of social sciences.

About 40% of the coverage is on the United Kingdom, 45% on North America, and 15% on the rest of the world. All documents contain a short informative abstract, full bibliographic details, and index terms that facilitate both general and specific subject searches. The database corresponds to the print journal of the same name. Approximately 680 worldwide English-based journals and newspapers representing 16 countries are routinely scanned, with about 80% abstracted cover-to-cover and 20% selectively.
