GlobalAssault Reviews:
Mustang over at GlobalAssault sent word they've reviewed a bunch my maps.
Lunar Space Depot - A very good 7/10 score.
Alpha Sector, Hideout, and Moondog's Arena - All received a great 8/10 score.

I've also been informed that you can play some of these maps on their server. Their server IP is 216.2.24.230:27016

Help Wanted:
I'm currently working with a team developing a noncommercial medieval multiplay game. We are a small, but an experienced team. We are looking for 2 talented individuals to join in the effort. These include a Modeler and a 2d Artist.

We have yet to announce this project publicly, and do not intend to do so until we are in beta stages.

Since this project is noncommercial, we do not have funding, nor intend to seek funding for this release. The goal is to complete an original and entertaining game developed by individuals in their free time. At this point, we have a well developed design document, a good start on the models, a good amount of code complete, and shortly the level design will catch up.

For more information please contact me as soon as possible. My email is paul@paulbullman.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

What does this have to do with half-life? The game will not be using the half-life engine, however, I've received numerous requests to do a TFC level. Some of the textures used in the stand alone project, I would like to use in a TFC level. I haven't any cool castle like tfc maps, so it will be a bit original.

Missing Names.wad.
I know a few of you out there have noticed a loading problem with the map. If you are one of these individuals who received the "missing valve/names.wad", the problem has been fixed. Simply redownload from [here] and you will be on your way. This time place the "names.wad" in your half-life\valve directory.

I removed names.wad from the textures list, and then reloaded worldcraft, then compiled for the final time. I'm not sure if this is something exclusive to a certain version of half-life or a bug in the latest Worldcraft. Nevertheless, I apologize for any confusion.

If you are receiving this problem with Alpha Sector(asectora.zip) then you should redownload [here]

Ends and Outs
Lunar Space Depot reached the 3000 download mark a few days ago!;-)
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I am in the process of working on a single player mission for half-life. I've decided to put that on the backburner for the time being. It was about 1/3 complete(and looked really cool), but I've got more important items on my plate than that particular episode right now. Time will tell if I finish it up or not.

Also.. As of yesterday my internet service was bought out by another company, so I've been thrown for a loop. It's always a good idea to inform your customers of a change before you decide to do something drastic. Of course, they didn't, so i'm stuck using Altavista Free internet service for the next few days. If I seem unreachable, I'm not, I just can't get online through my normal route. I was hoping that this wouldn't be a problem until 3 weeks from now when I move into my new apartment, but apparently that wasn't the case.

I mentioned in the text for Hideout that shortly I will be launching PaulBullman.com. I'm currently waiting for a third part authorization, so once that's complete PaulBullman.com will be alive. This does not mean any changes here, however. This site will continue to be my hub for Half-Life. Planethalflife.com is a good host therefore I have no reason to leave. PaulBullman.com will include some of the content here, but will also contain a much larger base of information including other 3d game design. I will still update this site as needed.

Update:
I'm in beta testing of my latest dm map(which hasn't been announced yet). It's looking extremely cool.. More info and hopefully a release later this week.

I've received lots of feedback on Alpha Sector, and I've modified the map a bit for improved gameplay. You can download the new version here.

New Quake2 Map!
No, not from me, but from a mapping guru friend of mine Pete Weatherby(aka Shadowdane.) Run by his "Map Palace" on Planetquake for his latest Quake2 Map. If you're into Quake2 maps, I recommend browsing through his past creations, some of my favorite maps have been created by him.

Problems downloading @ FilePlanet
Heading explains it all. Fileplanet is going through an upgrade so you may have trouble downloading from the Worldwide mirrors. If you download through Real Lyrics you should have no problems.

I have received word that in the next few weeks Fileplanet will be receiving some sort of boost. Anything in the ballpark of what it was before cdrom and fileplanet split sounds like good news to my ears. We will have to wait and see, and at this point all I've heard are rumors.

Lunar Space Depot hits 2k!
I've received word that it's been downloaded 2000 times in the last week. Groovy. The Map is located twice on Fileplanet, and also on Real Lyrics. I believe the total count is now around 2300. Now let's get Alpha Sector up to 3000;-)

Raven's Elite Force
I'm not a trek fan whatsoever, but I'm into the Elite Force Demo. It's action packed, with creative level design. If you are on a fast connection, the 115mb download is absolutely worth it. If you're cooking on a 56k or lower, I still would give it a try. If you are considering the Hired Team test over the Elite Force Demo you are nuts. While the Hired Team test is an improvement over the previously released test, it's still poorly constructed in almost every way. Don't even get me started on the level design.

Next Half Life Venture..
As some of you may know, I'm currently on a team designing a stand alone game. It has yet to see the public light, but it certainly consumes much of my time. We want to wait until the game is extremely stable, and nearing release before we release any information.

Over the next 3 weeks I will be redesigning this website a bit, maybe adding in a bit more eye candy. I'm not sure quite what to expect, so we will have to wait and see.

I've received all sorts of pleasant feedback from gamers who have downloaded Lunar Space Depot. I appreciate all the kind words. Most mappers that I know enjoy creating original worlds, and when they hear positive feedback, it's a big bonus.

As far as Half-Life is concerned, I just released Alpha Sector which I believe is heads above Lunar Space Depot. That puts my DM maps released in the last month to 3. My next venture will most likely be a single player mission.

The Complex mentioned(among it's many kind words) that I'm a relatively new mapper. If mapping since Doom/Duke3d is relatively new, then what the heck is an old mapper?;-) I actually released a whole bunch of maps for Duke3d on a geocities site which received around 100k hits during it's existence 3-5 years ago. The maps also received kind reviews on several sites which received many more hits than my geocities site. Before LSDepot, I had not released anything for half-life, but I was working on a project which was intended to be a commercial add on to half-life six months before it went gold.

cheers..

Level of the Week!
A pleasant surprise occurred after the hectic day.. Lunar Space Depot received a whopping 8/10 at the Complex, and received the Level of the Week Award on Planethalflife.

Some may have problems with how the level was archived, so I recently fixed the archive in the zip, the new version is located [here]. This won't affect the Level whatsoever, it's just an issue of copying the file to another directory if your zip program automatically archives to your hardrive, from what is in the zip.

Alpha Sector Released! Grab it Quickly!
FilePlanet sems to be self exploding lately.. I have uploaded the file to a much faster server. You can still grab it at FilePlanet, but I have received too many emails stating how poorly the performance has been as of late. Click on any link to Alpha Sector(including in the downloads) to get it from a faster server.

Without much ado here is Alpha Sector! It's a great medium sized map for your fragging pleasure. Before you go out and watch Fireworks, or participate in other state sanctioned legal activities(i know i will;-)) grab this map.

If you celebrate July Fourth, have a Safe Holiday, and if you don't, I sincerely hope you enjoy your day at work.;-P

I have discovered there were 9 people out there who downloaded the version that was pulled. The bug dealt with Half-Life, not my map. Apparently Half-Life added something which had an effect of a clip brush, where in the editor there was nothing of the sort. I've since worked around the bug and if you are now downloading the map, you downloaded the bugless(dare i say anything is bugless) Alpha Sector. If you are unsure, the fixed map weighs in around 410kb.

If you downloaded after 5:20pm CST on 7.04.00 you are fine. If you downloaded before then, I would recommend downloading the new version.

Enjoy!

Alpha Sector Shots:
Here are some pics from my latest map. It's almost complete. Literally around 99.5%. In fact, I was going to release it tonight, but I wanted to play a few more rounds with Jumbot. I will release it by Early Next Week.

Ends and Outs
Since all the important news relates to the download section, I've decided not to archive the news. I will chop this page down ever so often to ensure fast loading times.

I apologize for those who had problems with Moondog, and Lunar Space Depot in reference to the archives within each zip. The problem has been fixed if you download from FilePlanet.com. The problem occured when I used Winzip at the last minute, because my other zip program decided to start conflicting with other programs. Thanks Shadowdane for the heads up.

I have now discovered the most pathetic attempt at a television show known to man. The program is Net Talk Live. Ignore the poor content, poor lighting, and ridiculous band/dancers, and you still have the poor announcers who have as much sense of humor as a limestone rock in a creek being ionized by water. I hope they do not wonder why they are on at 3:30am(at least in my market).
